I don't think I have ever had home cook apple pie.  I'm alright at cooking.  I tend to mimic the good cooks I know and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I figure with a few jumps I will keep better with time. I made a chocolate cake the first time with too little flour in the pan and the second time it turned out nicely I think.
